THE NIX LISTENING ROOMNIX MUSIC

Punk attitude. Reggae bass. Ska bounce.

I’m putting PROPER NIX — No Genre, No Rules on the NIX shelf: punk, reggae, ska and dub sharing the same space. Give the bass some room and let the offbeat do its thing.

WHAT’S THIS ONE ABOUT?

The sharp edge of punk meets reggae’s space and weight, with ska keeping things moving. That crossover is the point: attitude and groove taking turns at the controls.

LISTEN OUT FOR

The bass
Follow the low end before the chorus grabs you. Space around a bassline can be as effective as another guitar.

The contrast
Notice the change in pace and texture as punk, reggae and ska take their turns.

BEST HEARD ON

My pick: a campervan evening after the driving is done. Give a small speaker a little breathing room, pour something decent and leave the playlist in order.
