NIX HIGH VOLTAGE

WHAT’S THIS ONE ABOUT?

The playlist’s own description sets the direction:

Two hours of electricity, voltage, power, circuits and charged-up music, spanning synth-pop, rock, electronic and rave.

I’d start with the running order rather than shuffle. Let the choices make their case, one track at a time.

LISTEN OUT FOR

The opening
Start with Electricity by Orchestral Manoeuvres In the Dark. Listen to what catches your ear first, then carry that thought into the next song.

The detail
Try a track you know at a comfortable volume. Listen for a voice or instrument you usually overlook.

Another stop
Stay for The Power of Love (Extended Singlette Version) by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Listen for what it changes from the opening.

BEST HEARD ON

My pick: headphones and an uninterrupted half-hour. No scrolling, no skipping after ten seconds. Let the music earn the next track.
