Torque, my Midnight Grey Scott Aspect eRIDE 910, at Cannock Chase
NIX STORIES · TRAIL

TORQUE.

THE SCOTT ASPECT eRIDE 910 THAT CHANGED HOW I RIDE

There are bikes you own, and there are bikes that quietly alter the map around where you live.
Torque has done the latter.

THE MAP GOT BIGGER

A NAME EARNED
ON THE CLIMBS.

Torque is my Scott Aspect eRIDE 910, bought in 2026 and finished in Midnight Grey. The name came naturally: torque is the useful shove that arrives when a climb steepens, but it also fits the little NIX fleet of machines that have earned identities rather than remaining catalogue numbers.

Vanilla gets me to the adventure. Torque takes me beyond the road. The Bosch assistance has made Cannock Chase and the local trail network much more accessible without turning riding into a passenger activity. I still choose the line, supply the effort and collect the mud. I simply reach the top with enough curiosity left to investigate another track.

Scott’s published specification confirms the 120mm XCM34 fork, SRAM 12-speed transmission, Shimano four-piston hydraulic brakes and Midnight Grey finish. It is a capable alloy hardtail rather than a downhill sofa—and that directness is part of its character.

TRAIL OUTPUTNATURAL, PROPORTIONAL SUPPORT

The motor does not replace pedalling. Its sensors read what I am doing and add support in proportion to the effort and chosen riding mode. Push into a loose climb and it responds; ease off over roots and the assistance settles. That is why the best moments feel like stronger legs rather than somebody else controlling the bike.

The Smart System and eBike Flow app bring configuration, system information and ride data onto my phone. Supported modes can be tuned, but the purpose is not to chase the largest number. More assistance can increase component wear and reduce range. The useful setting is the one that keeps the bike predictable beneath me.

NO MAGIC RANGE.

600WhINTEGRATED ENERGY STORE

A watt-hour describes stored energy, not a guaranteed mileage. Terrain, climbing, my weight, the assistance mode, temperature, tyre pressure, surface conditions and how often I accelerate all change the answer. Firm dry tracks reward restraint; cold mud, low pressure and repeated steep climbs collect their payment. I plan with a reserve instead of trying to arrive home on electrons and optimism.

BUILT FOR CANNOCK CHASE

ROOTS. STONE.
MUD. GRINS.

Cannock Chase is where Torque makes complete sense. Forest roads make useful connectors; climbs let the Bosch system earn its place; descents demand judgement; and roots, loose stone and mud keep every outing honest.

Follow the Dog mixes flowing singletrack with climbs, berms, rock gardens, boardwalks and roots. The Monkey Trail begins after the opening section of Follow the Dog and adds a longer, more demanding chapter. I also enjoy the quieter tracks beyond the headline routes—often because an ignored turning is exactly where the next story begins.

RECORDED RIDE · NOT A SIMULATION

This was the ride where Torque stopped being the new bike and became the adventure machine. The numbers came from the existing TRAIL archive; no heroic extra decimal places have been added for dramatic effect.

The orange details work because the frame does not compete with them. Against Midnight Grey, the pedals and grips connect Torque visually to Vanilla and the wider graphite-and-orange NIX identity. The guards, lights, saddlebag, security and saddle are less theatrical: they have simply earned their place by making real rides better.

TRAIL MACHINE.

Vanilla gets me to the adventure.
Torque takes me beyond the road.

The campervan is transport, shelter, kitchen, charging base and somewhere dry to return to. Towzer carries the bike. Torque then turns a distant forest or coastal track from scenery into somewhere I can properly explore.
