# π§ STORIES ARE THE BACKBONE OF NIX
π§ STORIES ARE THE BACKBONE OF NIX
π Why nixdrones.com is becoming a place built around the things I actually do
NIX has always been about more than drones. π
It has never really been just a gallery. Or a gadget cupboard. π± Or a campervan page. π Or a bike section. π² Or a collection of places I have been. πΊοΈ
It is all of those things.
But the thing that joins absolutely everything together is the **story**.
That is why Stories are becoming the backbone of nixdrones.com. π§‘
Not an extra section.
Not something bolted onto the side.
Not a dusty archive hiding three clicks away.
The backbone. π¦΄β‘
The place where everything connects.
π I WANT NIX TO FEEL ALIVE
I do not want nixdrones.com to feel like a filing cabinet. ποΈ
I want it to feel alive.
Moving.
Changing.
Growing.
Exploring.
A bit restless, in the best possible way. β‘π²πΈ
I want somebody to land on the site and immediately find themselves following a thread.
Maybe they arrive because of a drone photograph. ππ·
That photograph leads into a story about the place. π
That story leads into the journey there. π
The journey leads to Vanilla.
Vanilla leads into solar. βοΈ
Solar leads into off-grid power. π
Power leads into gadgets. π
Gadgets lead into another trip.
And suddenly one story has quietly opened the door to five more. πͺβ¨
That is exactly how I want NIX to work.
π STORIES GIVE EVERYTHING A REASON TO EXIST
A photograph is great. πΈ
A video is great. π₯
A route on a map is great. πΊοΈ
A piece of technology is great. βοΈ
A campsite is great. βΊ
A new wheel is great. π
But the story explains why it mattered.
Why did I go there?
What happened?
What surprised me?
What went wrong? π¬
What worked far better than expected? π
Would I do it again?
Would I recommend it?
Was it worth the money?
Did it change the way I travel?
That is where NIX becomes more than a collection of media.
It becomes a record of experience.
My experience. π§
π SKY // π ROAD // π² TRAIL
Most things I do naturally fit somewhere into the three worlds that define NIX.
π SKY
Flying.
Photography.
Drones.
Big landscapes.
Tiny details.
The view from above.
The moments where I stop, look at the screen and think:
That is why I brought the drone. πΈβ¨
π ROAD
Vanilla.
Campervan life.
Driving.
Touring.
Campsites.
Upgrades.
Gadgets.
Solar.
Ferries.
Motorways.
Mountain roads.
Lay-bys.
Coffee stops. βπ
And all the stuff that happens between one destination and the next.
π² TRAIL
Torque.
Tracks.
Forests.
Mud.
Climbs.
Descents.
Cannock Chase.
Unexpected detours.
And those rides that start with:
βIβll just go out for an hour.β
Then somehow become a full expedition. ππ²π²
π THE STORIES CONNECT ALL THREE
Sometimes one story belongs firmly in one world.
Sometimes it crosses two.
Occasionally it manages to involve all three.
π + π + π²
Perfect.
Real life does not arrive neatly sorted into folders.
The website should not pretend that it does.
π§ I WANT STORIES TO GROW NATURALLY
One of the biggest changes I want from NIX is that a story should not disappear simply because I filed it under one category.
If I write about a campervan trip that includes drone photography and a bike ride, that story should naturally appear wherever it makes sense.
π ROAD
π SKY
π² TRAIL
The story remains one story.
It simply has more than one doorway. πͺπͺπͺ
That is the direction I want the whole website to follow.
Simple on the surface.
Connected underneath.
Like a maze with better lighting. π
π¦οΈ THE BEST PART IS OFTEN THE BIT I DIDN'T PLAN
Some of my favourite stories begin with something completely ordinary.
A new tyre. π
A solar panel. βοΈ
A campsite. βΊ
A Sunday bike ride. π²
A gadget. π±
A short drive somewhere. π
Then something happens.
The weather changes. π¦οΈ
The light suddenly becomes perfect. π
A piece of kit performs far better than expected. β‘
A route turns out to be spectacular. ποΈ
Something breaks. π§
Something gets fixed. π οΈ
Or an idea that started as a small experiment becomes part of the way I travel.
That is the material I want NIX to capture.
Not just the polished result.
The journey towards it. π§
π VANILLA IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE
Vanilla has gradually become one of the biggest characters in the whole NIX world. π§‘π
Every upgrade seems to create another story.
βοΈ Solar
π Power
ποΈ Off-grid testing
π Wheels
π² Tyres
π§ Suspension
βΊ Camping
πΊοΈ Touring
π± Technology
π³ Cooking
π₯ Heating
π Long journeys
π§ Future adventures
None of those things really belong as isolated specification pages.
They become much more interesting when I explain what led me there, what I chose, why I chose it and what happened afterwards.
That is what Stories can do.
They turn stuff into experience.
And experience into memory.
π AND THEN THERE ARE THE BIG ADVENTURES
Some stories will begin before the adventure even happens.
Planning is part of the story too. πΊοΈβοΈ
A future road trip through Norway and Sweden is already a story. π³π΄πΈπͺ
Choosing routes is a story.
Preparing Vanilla is a story.
Working out what equipment I need is a story.
Then comes the journey itself.
π The roads
β΄οΈ The ferries
ποΈ The camps
π§οΈ The weather
πΈ The photographs
π The drone footage
π The things that go exactly to plan
π€¦ The things that absolutely do not
Those stories can grow over time instead of appearing only when everything is finished.
That makes the website feel alive.
Because the adventure is alive too.
π§ THE WEBSITE SHOULD FOLLOW THE STORY
This changes the way I think about nixdrones.com.
Instead of building pages and then trying to fill them with content, I want the content to lead.
The Stories decide where the website grows.
If I suddenly become obsessed with campervan solar, there will naturally be more about solar. βοΈπ
If I spend a month riding Torque, TRAIL becomes busier. π²π²
If I head into the hills with a drone, SKY comes alive. πποΈ
If Vanilla gets another upgrade...
Well.
That is almost guaranteed to become a story. πππ οΈ
The website follows what I am actually doing.
That feels much more honest.
And much more NIX.
πΈ PHOTOS SHOULD OPEN DOORS
Photography remains a huge part of NIX.
It always will. π·
But I want photographs to become gateways into stories rather than dead ends.
A photograph should be clickable.
It should have a title.
It should have context.
It should explain where I was, what I was doing and why that moment mattered.
Sometimes the photograph itself will be the story.
Sometimes it will lead somewhere deeper. π³οΈβ¨
That is why Flickr is becoming so useful inside the NIX world.
A photograph is no longer just an image.
Its title, description, album and tags can all help connect it to everything around it.
πΈ Photo = visual π Title = headline π Description = story ποΈ Album = section π Tags = connections
That is incredibly powerful.
π₯ VIDEO SHOULD DO THE SAME
Video can take somebody somewhere instantly.
A drone flight. π
A road through Norway. π³π΄
A mountain campsite. βΊ
A bike trail through Cannock Chase. π²π²
A piece of kit being tested properly. βοΈ
Stories give those videos context.
Instead of dropping a video onto a page simply because it looks good, I can build it into the experience.
βΆοΈ Watch it.
π Read the story.
πΊοΈ Follow the route.
πΈ Open the gallery.
πͺ Discover the next adventure.
Everything should connect.
π I WANT PEOPLE TO KEEP EXPLORING
This is probably the biggest ambition behind the new NIX.
I want every good story to contain another doorway.
And another.
And another.
Not through giant menus.
Not through dozens of categories.
Through relevance.
Little portals. π
Small links.
Photographs.
Places.
Gadgets.
Previous trips.
Future plans.
Those wormholes are what can make NIX genuinely enjoyable to explore.
You might arrive looking for a review of a tyre...
...then end up reading about solar.
...then Norway.
...then Torque.
...then a drone flight.
...then somehow be looking at a campsite in Sweden at midnight. ππΈπͺ
Perfect.
That is exactly the sort of rabbit hole I want.
𧑠STORIES ARE ALSO MY MEMORY
There is another reason I want Stories at the centre of NIX.
They are becoming my record.
Years from now, I want to be able to open a story and remember exactly what was happening.
π Where I went.
π What I was driving.
π What I was flying.
π² What I was riding.
π§ What I thought.
β‘ What I was excited about.
π§ What worked.
π What failed.
π What improved.
π§ What changed direction.
Photographs help me remember how something looked.
Stories help me remember how it felt.
That matters.
π° NIX IS NOT A NEWS SITE
I am not trying to build a giant publication.
I am not trying to chase every trend.
I am not trying to write about everything.
Quite the opposite.
I want NIX to become more personal.
More focused.
More useful.
More real.
If I write about something, it should be because I have used it, visited it, experienced it, planned it or genuinely found it interesting enough to explore.
That gives the site a voice.
My voice.
π₯ THE STORY COMES FIRST
That will be the guiding principle from now on.
The homepage can change.
The galleries can grow.
The maps can improve.
The technology can evolve.
New adventures will begin.
New gadgets will inevitably appear. π±π
Vanilla will almost certainly receive another upgrade I originally claimed I did not need. ππ οΈ
Torque will find another trail. π²π²
A drone will end up in the sky. π
A camera will point at something beautiful. πΈ
And somewhere in all of that...
there will be a story.
π§ STORIES ARE THE BACKBONE OF NIX
Everything else connects to them.
Every journey.
Every photograph.
Every video.
Every upgrade.
Every trail.
Every road.
Every flight.
Every adventure.
Every brilliant idea.
Every questionable idea. π
Every moment worth remembering.
That is where NIX is heading.
And I absolutely love the direction.
