🚵♂️ The ache that made me question my riding—and pay attention to my driving
I bought an e‑mountain bike to get out there.
More fresh air. More woodland. More exploring. More of those moments when a track disappears between the trees and I immediately want to know where it goes. 🌲⚡
Torque, my Scott Aspect eRIDE 910, fits that idea beautifully. Midnight Grey, orange details and a Bosch motor helping turn a promising route into an actual afternoon out.
Unfortunately, my left knee appears to have submitted its own itinerary.
And its preferred destination is a lengthy discussion.
It has been aching for months. After a ride, it was easy to point an accusing finger at the bike and ask the obvious question:
“Is my e‑MTB making my sore knee worse?”
But then I mentioned another part of the story.
It aches when I am sitting still, including while driving the truck. And when I straighten my leg or get up and walk around, it eases.
That detail deserves some attention.
This is where my current story begins: with a bike I want to ride, a job that involves plenty of sitting, and a knee I need to understand.
🚛 THE ACHE IN THE CAB
Driving an HGV demands concentration, awareness and a steady supply of patience.
The scenery changes. The traffic changes. The estimated arrival time occasionally develops a sense of humour.
Meanwhile, my knee can remain bent in much the same position for a considerable stretch.
That is the part I had not fully connected to the bigger picture.
Sitting down feels like resting. Compared with pedalling through the woods, it certainly sounds restful. Yet a position can still be uncomfortable even when I am hardly moving.
