HYDRATION LEVEL: NINJA — Why the Ninja Thirsti Bottle Has Become Part of the Everyday Kit

There’s always one bit of kit that somehow ends up coming everywhere.

Not because it’s particularly exciting. Not because you spent three weeks watching reviews before buying it. It just quietly earns a permanent place in the loadout.

At the moment, that’s my Ninja Thirsti bottle.

It’s black, understated and already carries a few marks from actually being used. In other words, it fits the NIX DRONES aesthetic rather nicely.

When you’re heading out with a drone, it’s remarkably easy to obsess over technology.

Batteries charged? Yep.

Controller charged? Hopefully.

Memory cards formatted? Probably.

Phone charged? Getting questionable.

And somewhere amongst all of that, there’s the slightly more fundamental requirement of keeping the person operating everything functioning.

That’s where the Thirsti comes in.

It has become one of those things I grab almost automatically before heading out. Whether that means a proper drone mission, a long drive, a walk or simply several hours away from home, the bottle comes along for the ride.

Built to Be Used

What I like most about it is that it doesn’t feel precious.

The matte-black finish looks smart, but mine is already developing the little knocks and battle scars that come from everyday use. I actually quite like that.

Gear should tell a story.

A pristine bottle sitting permanently on a kitchen shelf might look lovely, but that rather defeats the point. This one gets thrown into bags, carried around, put down next to camera equipment and generally treated as part of the working kit.

The real test of any insulated bottle is remarkably simple: does the drink inside still feel like the drink you wanted several hours later?

That matters more than you might think on a day out.

Drone adventures have an amusing habit of involving far more waiting, walking and driving than the finished footage suggests. A beautiful 20-second sequence might have involved an hour finding the location, another half-hour checking conditions and several conversations beginning with:

“Where on earth can I actually take off from?”

Having a decent drink with you is one less thing to think about.

And I’m very much in favour of one less thing to think about.

The Thirsti isn’t exclusively drone gear, of course.

That’s probably why I like it.

It works just as well sitting beside me on a long motorway run as it does accompanying a backpack full of flying cameras. It can come to work, go on a trail or sit beside the editing setup while several gigabytes of footage slowly turn into something worth watching.

That versatility is what turns an ordinary object into part of your everyday carry.

You stop deciding whether to bring it.

You just bring it.

I could probably try to make the bottle look brand new again.

I’m not going to.

Those little scratches on the front are part of it now. They’re evidence that this isn’t something bought purely because it photographs nicely against a graphite background with some suspiciously dramatic orange lighting.

That was always going to happen.

NIX DRONES has never really been just about drones.

The drone might be the thing in the sky, but the adventure around it happens everywhere else.

It’s the road getting there.

The trail to the launch point.

The bag full of equipment.

The coffee before sunrise.

And apparently, now, the black bottle that keeps appearing in all of it.

The Ninja Thirsti has earned its place.

Nothing complicated. Nothing revolutionary.

Just useful kit that does its job and keeps coming back out with me.
