π PN100 Soft Toastie Loaf
Iβve been experimenting with a soft white loaf designed especially for toast, very much in the style of a classic Warburtons-type toast loaf.
This one uses just 250 g of flour, so itβs ideal for the Panasonic PN100.
Ingredients
165 ml water 25 ml whole milk 15 g softened butter 1 tsp vegetable oil 1 tsp salt 2 tsp sugar 1 tbsp skimmed milk powder 250 g strong white bread flour 1 tsp fast-action dried yeast
Add to the bread pan in this order
- Water
- Milk
- Butter
- Vegetable oil
- Salt
- Sugar
- Milk powder
- Strong white bread flour
- Yeast on top
βοΈ Exact PN100 Settings
Menu: 1 Programme: Basic Crust: Light Timer: Off, unless you specifically want a delayed start Total programme time: approximately 4 hours to 4 hours 10 minutes
The PN100 automatically handles the individual stages, roughly:
π‘οΈ Rest: 40 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes π₯£ Knead: 25 minutes π± Rise: 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes π₯ Bake: 40 to 50 minutes
You donβt need to interfere with it. Load the ingredients, select Menu 1 + Light Crust, press Start and let the PN100 do its thing.
After baking
Remove the loaf from the pan fairly promptly and place it on a cooling rack.
I loosely cover mine with a clean tea towel while it cools. This helps soften the crust and gives it much more of that familiar soft toast-loaf feel.
Try not to cut it while itβs hot. Letting it cool completely gives a much neater, finer crumb.
π₯ Then comes the important test... TOAST.
Slice it fairly thick, toast until golden and apply butter with absolutely no regard for moderation. ππ§
Soft centre, crisp outside and sturdy enough for beans, eggs, marmalade, peanut butter or a proper cheese-on-toast session.
If anyone tries this in their PN100, let me know how it turns out! π
